This laptop is a waste of money!! I only purchased the laptop to replace my Advent which had gone back to PC World PC GUYS for screen repair. The HP Dv9689EA works ok if you don't want to share anything on the screen with anyone sitting next to you!
I purchased this laptop to do a presentation, the two colleges I was presenting to could not see my presentation very well because of the following reasons.
1. The laptop was running on batteries, which means the screen goes darker(to save on battery power)I had the brightness turned up to the maximum.
2. The viewing angle is rubbish which means you have to have the screen pointing directly at you before you can see the images clearly, without strange shadows.

It gets worse, I wanted to play back a new High Definition DVD I had, which is one of the reasons I purchased this unit, using an external monitor or projector I tried to play my DVD but it would not play, all the time I had the external monitor connected.
This I tried with different playback software including WIN DVD QUCIKTIME REAL PLAYER and VLC.
I also tried two different HD DVD Movies.
So I am stuck I can only play my High Definition movies on the useless laptop screen.
I cant even change to an external screen.
HP what are you thinking !! for £1200.00 there are better alternatives out there my older Advent laptop which the HP was to replace has a much better screen. Here a funny thing , I sent it off on Friday and it was back with me on the Tuesday! All working perfectly, so well done PC GUYS at PC World, (I took out their insurance which is about £8.00 per month and worth every penny!!) back to the shop
with the HP for a massive refund!

I only bought this product three days ago and I've been back to PC World three times since ! Problems include freezing at start up, in-ability to update windows as windows update needs updating and cannot, HP security download freezing the start up.... Going back tonight for a refund or exchange for a different manufacturers laptop. Not impressed , especially at this price !
